Latin Dance Sport

Q : What is it?
A : It is a competitive form of Ballroom Dancing which has been recognized by the International Olympic Council as a sport and is to be included in the Olympic Games as an event in the near future. It is also still widely danced in many social gatherings all around the world. Dancesport consists of two distinct styles - Standard, which includes five distinct yet complimentary dances. These are the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz; Latin, which also includes five distinct but also complimentary dances. These are the Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

Q : What will I learn?
A : Apart from the basic steps that will be great to have in any social function, you'll also be taught simple partnering skills. For the intermediate dancer, we also have choreography classes where you can explore various choreography styles with a group of dancers - extremely useful to distinguish your dancing actions. For the more advanced and interested dancer, we have technique
classes that will delve into a series of lessons on anatomy and understanding of the body as an instrument as well as how to apply this knowledge in your dancing to improve speed, strength, agility, and presentation.

Q : Do I need to bring a partner?
A : No! Come for yourself and meet new people who share your common interest. It'll be fun!

Q : What should I wear?
A : For the beginner, ladies are encouraged to wear shoes with a short heel (no higher than 2") and firm straps. Gentlemen are encouraged to wear shoes with flat soles. No special dance shoes required. For the intermediate and advance dancer, proper Dancesport shoes are required. Come comfortably attired.
